I have always gotten a tax return. I am wondering if I file jointly with him if they will take all of our taxes or my portion of it will be returned to me? I am trying to figure if it would be best for me to file jointly or seperately.

Given also that he has an insurance that he could leave to his relatives.
Are the relatives liable for the payment of his back taxes?
